Architectural patchwork: Giving heritage leather new life.
Hand-cut and sewn in our Chicago workshop, the Patchwork Mini Skirt is a one-of-a-kind textile collage. By stitching together remnants of our 100% vegetable-tanned leather, we create a design reminiscent of the brick architecture of the Chicago cityscape. This approach allows us to give the material new life and reduce waste, ensuring each piece is a unique work of art. The design is finished with a raw, jagged hem and an exposed brass zipper for an industrial edge, while being fully lined in 100% Japanese Bemberg rayon for ultimate comfort.
Our leather is sourced from Horween, a unionized tannery founded in 1905 and the last of its kind in Chicago. They utilize a slow, non-toxic vegetable-tanning process involving tree bark extracts. This method produces hides with rich, variegated tones that improve with age and can be safely recycled. Each skirt retains the natural grain patterns, marks, and history of the hide, embracing the uniqueness of each individual piece.
